HORTICULTURE II BHT102

PLANT IDENTIFICATION - More than anything else, a key to getting a job in many sectors of the horticulture industry!

You can't sell the right plant to the right customer without this knowledge.
You can't design an efficient and healthy garden without this knowledge.
You can't work in a professional capacity in public parks and gardens without this knowledge.
Many courses are lacking in plant knowledge - even students with university degrees do this course to expand what they have learnt and especially to fill in the missing gaps.

This course is a natural progression from Horticulture 1, but can be taken as a subject in its own. It concentrates on the identification, care and use of plants in a systematic way. Plant knowledge learnt here is in high demand in the horticulture industry. It is something prioritised by employers, but all too often minimized in modern courses due to financial constraints.

HOW CAN THIS COURSE HELP YOUR CAREER?

Plant knowledge is at the base of all great horticulture - the problem is that there are many graduates out there that fall short! If you have the skills to correctly identify and understand the growing requirements of a large range of plants you will have a far greater chance of progressing in this field. Knowledgeable horticulturists are thin on the ground. If you work in a nursery, in grounds or garden maintenance, garden design, flower cropping, rehabilitation of degraded sites, forest management and so on these skills are sought after and will set you apart from the rest.
